In this second book of the Little Elliot picture book series, Little Elliot the elephant learns that family comes in all shapes and sizes.
About Little Elliot, Big Family:
“[Curato is] a terrific emerging talent, with gorgeously rendered images that bring to mind the moodiness of Chris Van Allsburg and the sweetness of William Joyce.” – Publishers Weekly, starred review
“[Curato] beautifully renders the images in rich earth tones that are soft and smooth.” – The New York Times
On October 6, 2015, the beloved polka-dotted elephant from award-winning author Mike Curato’s debut picture book Little Elliot, Big City, returns in Little Elliot, Big Family the second book in the Little Elliot picture book series, with two more books planned for 2016 and 2017.
Mike Curato is an artist to watch. He received both an Ezra Jack Keats New Illustrator Honor and was the winner of the Founder’s Award from the Society of Illustrators for his 2014 debut. His cinematic, retro-noir style art have earned him comparisons to Edward Hopper, Chris Van Allsburg, and William Joyce.
In this second book, Elliot is happily living with Mouse, the new friend he gained in Little Elliot, Big City. When Mouse goes to visit family, Elliot takes to the city for a walk and discovers families out enjoying the city and feels all alone without a family of elephants surrounding him. Luckily, Mouse reappears and introduces Elliot to his family, reminding him that families come in all shapes and sizes.
